The Monadnock Folklore Society presents the Nelson Second Saturday Contra Dance on June 8th, featuring Isabella Diemand calling with Trip to Nelson.
Caller “Bella” Diemand is presenting her first full evening of dances. A long-time dancer, she has been mentored over the past year by experienced callers at the Monadnock Folklore Society.
Trip to Nelson is a contra dance band born in the Nelson Town Hall. Primarily young players under the age of 20, they play in a style that is both innovative and respectful of the tradition of contra dance music.
The band consists of:
Matt Garland: flute, whistle, accordion
Richard Backes: guitar, mandolin, fiddle, accordion
Lizza Backes: flute, whistle, concertina
Gordon Peery: piano, guitar
Dancing begins at 8:00 PM, with a short workshop beforehand. Beginners and singles are welcome and all dances are taught throughout the evening. Admission is $8 or $6 for students and seniors.
