Wednesday night Keene World Harmony Chorus
A world harmony teen and adult community chorus for men and women led by Lynn Mahoney Rowan and Will Thomas Rowan is offered on Wednesday nights at 7 – 9pm, starting up again on September 3rd, 2014. Participants learn to sing traditional songs from Angola, Bulgaria, Caucasus Georgia, Quebec, Lithuania, North America, and more; no previous experience or music-reading ability required. The chorus is held at the Keene Unitarian Church (KUUC) on Washington Street. Singers are welcome to come to a first rehearsal for free.
Lynn and Will Rowan are veteran workshop leaders with Northern Harmony and Renewal choruses, choral leaders for Village Harmony and Revels North, and members of the award-winning band, Windborne. They have traveled the world collecting songs. Lynn and Will have an energetic, easy-going teaching style and like to “sing our hearts out for the sheer joy of it.” They teach not only the notes, but also new ways of using one’s voice and tell stories of all the places of origin of the songs. The choral leaders’ band, Windborne toured in 2014 as American Music Ambassadors Abroad in Turkmenistan, Kyrgystan and Angola.
