☼ ☼ ☼ Contra Dance | Peterborough
November 3 @ 7:30 pm - 11:00 pm$10
The Monadnock Folklore Society presents the Peterborough, NH First Saturday Contra Dance on November 3, featuring Bob Isaacs calling with the band Heathen Creek.
This month’s dance will be held at the Union Congregational Church, 33 Concord Street in Peterborough, NH. The dance’s regular location, the Peterborough Town House, is undergoing renovation. The dance will return to the Town House in December.
Contra dance is a fun, relaxed style of folk dance which has flourished in New England since the 1700s. Partners form lines and dance a short sequence of steps with their neighbors. Dancers are welcome to bring a partner or a group of friends, but it’s not necessary – traditionally, dancers are encouraged to change partners throughout the evening.
Hailing from New Jersey, caller Bob Isaacs is known for his ability to invent creative dances while remaining true to the traditional roots of contra dancing.
A New England-based group, Heathen Creek has played around the region. They are known for their inventive compositions and exciting musical arrangements. Heathen Creek is Maia Rutman on fiddle, Mark Koyama playing mandolin and Pete Johannsen on guitar.
The dancing begins at 8:00 PM. The dance also hosts a free jam session for beginning and intermediate musicians at 6:30 PM and a workshop for new dancers at 7:30 PM.
Admission is $10 or $7 for students and seniors.
