“1941” Contra Dance | Nelson

September 30 @ 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm

Free

Nelson Dance 1940sThe Nelson 250th Anniversary Celebration Committee and the Monadnock Folklore Society presents a Contra Dance on September 30th, featuring Adam Boyce.

Several years ago, photographs were discovered that had been taken at a Nelson NH contra dance in June of 1941. See examples at http://bit.ly/1941Dance. Square and contra dances have been an important part of the Nelson community since the early 1800s.

The theme for this dance is to recreate the look of those photos to the extent possible. Caller Adam Boyce will bring dances of that era, accompanied by Sue Hunt on piano.

Dancers are encouraged but not required to dress in 1941-style attire.

Dancing begins at 8:00 PM. Beginners and singles are welcome and all dances are taught throughout the evening. Admission is free thanks to the support of the town for the 250th Anniversary Celebration.

The dance takes place at the historic Town Hall in Nelson, NH. For more information call 603.762.0235 or visit www.monadnockfolk.org. The Monadnock Folklore Society has presented contra dances and concerts of traditional music since 1982.
