☼ ☼ ☼ Peterborough First Saturday Contra Dance

4004-bigThe Monadnock Folklore Society presents the Peterborough, NH First Saturday Contra Dance on March 2, featuring Marguerite Durant calling with Rodney Miller, Stuart Kenny, and Peter Siegel.

Marguerite Durant is a dance caller and music educator living in Leeds, MA. A graduate of Pinewoods’ courses for contra callers and singing squares, Marguerite enjoys crafting varied programs and is known for her singing voice. Marguerite teaches music and movement to students in grades K-8 at Hilltown Charter School in Haydenville, MA.

Musician Rodney Miller is widely considered to be the foremost exponent of New England style fiddling. Over the past thirty years Miller has toured the United States, Canada, the British Isles, Australia and Denmark and he has recorded over ten albums. Many of his original compositions have gone on to become fiddle tune standards. In l983, Rodney was designated a “Master Fiddler” by the National Endowment for the Arts.

They’ll be ably backed in Peterborough by Stuart Kenney playing banjo and bass and Peter Siegel on guitar and mandolin.

The dancing begins at 8:00 PM, with an optional introductory workshop beforehand. Admission is $8 or $6 for students and seniors.
