The Monadnock Folklore Society has sponsored a strings program at the Nelson Elementary School since 2010.
Elementary School students receive a loaner violin for the school term and pay a small fee for weekly lessons. These lessons are open to Elementary School students at the beginning of every school year. The program has been funded by local donors who continue to make Nelson Strings possible.
In 2024, the fiddle program was expanded to include adults and teens. They provide their own instrument and pay the instructor monthly ($15 per lesson).

The schedule for Spring/Summer 2026 is:
Elementary School students: Mondays at 4 PM
Teen and Adult Beginners: Mondays at 5 PM (Beginners have an instrument but know basically nothing about playing.)
Teen and Adult Intermediate: Mondays at 6 PM (Intermediate students can play a few tunes and are working on improving their skills.)
All lessons are held in the basement of the Nelson Congregational Church, 830 Nelson Road, Nelson, NH 03457.
