Peterborough Historical Society Annual Meeting: Music and More!

Join the Peterborough Historical Society in celebrating its 109th Annual Meeting with a Peterborough History Cabaret and Silent Auction.  The History Cabaret will feature songs and stories all with a Peterborough flavor performed by local musicians and storytellers, including Hunt Smith and Allison Aldrich, Liz Backes, August Watters, Gordon Peery, Lorraine Walker, and Jim Grant.  The program will be held from 6:30 to 8 pm with wine and hors d’oeurves. Admission is free and open to the public.

Musical selections include songs by forgotten Peterborough composers Marie Greene and Alfred Clarke as well as famed Peterborough composer Edward MacDowell.  Among the stories that will be shared are the Tale of Old Joe Russell, the Lady in Derby’s Window and Fletcher Dole, the Milkman of Our Town.  Rounding out the entertainment will be two short films with footage of Peterborough in the 1920s and 1930s, including a look at an old-fashioned toboggan run at the Peterborough Golf Club.

In conjunction with the cabaret, the Society is holding a silent auction with goods and services donated by members and local businesses. The offerings include a Wellness Center membership, antiques, photographs, and gift certificates as well as unique items like a tour of the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Concord, MA, a garden consultation and a weekend at a Cape Cod cottage. Bidders can place a bid at the Historical Society through October 22 or view the items and leave a bid online. All bidding will close during the History Cabaret.
